Amatikwe, Inanda
If there is a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, its standing up against the scourge of gender based violence ("GBV") against women and children. On the 28 November 2022, we took to the streets of Amatikwe in Inanda, KwaZulu Natal to say enough is enough!
Inanda which is located 30km North West of Durban has a notorious reputation, often referred to as South Africa's rape capital. The township is marred by significantly high rates of crimes against women and children. The youth of Amatikwe came out in numbers to stand with us as we attended at the Inanda South African Police Services ("SAPS") to hand over a memorandum calling for major intervention in GBV related crimes.
Our campaign culminated with a workshop for both men and women raise awareness on the role that we can each play and the personal responsibility we have in creating a society free of these attrocious crimes. A special tthnak you to all the men who joined our cause as GBV is not a womens' issue but a societal one which we cannot overcome without dismantiling patriarchy.
